About the Opportunity
The Comox Valley Land Trust (CVLT) is seeking a dynamic Program Manager (PM) to lead and coordinate the Comox Valley Conservation Partnership (CVCP) — a collaborative initiative of 27+ environmental and stewardship organizations. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping local environmental policies and driving conservation outcomes across the Comox Valley.
You’ll lead projects, manage stakeholders, support conservation strategies, and act as a trusted liaison between community groups and local government. If you’re an experienced project manager with a passion for environmental protection, this role offers meaningful impact and professional autonomy.
What You’ll Do
You will be the engine behind the CVCP, working closely with the CVLT Executive Director and a Steering Committee to develop, plan, deliver, and track high-impact initiatives. Your responsibilities will include:
Project & Partnership Management
- Facilitate collaboration across community groups, local governments, and external stakeholders.
- Oversee implementation of conservation priorities, including watershed protection, land-use planning, and ecological policy advocacy.
- Coordinate monthly CVCP Steering Committee meetings: scheduling, set agendas, track progress, and ensure follow-up. Assist Committee co-chairs facilitate collaborative and productive meetings.
Strategic Engagement & Policy Work
- Monitor municipal/regional government processes for relevant policy changes, public consultations, and development referrals.
- Coordinate CVCP member groups to review development applications for environmental impact and prepare informed responses.
- Organize and support delegations to councils and committees on conservation issues.
Research, Reporting & Communication
- Support the delivery, publication and promotion of the CVCP foundational document “Nature Without Border” (currently being updated).
- Conduct research and policy analysis on best practices, regulations, and case studies.
- Prepare funding proposals and progress reports for funders and the CVLT Board.
- Initiate and develop outreach content and educational materials, which may include periodic events and workshops.
- Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator on all promotion and public engagement.
Must-Have Qualifications
We are looking for a confident, highly organized program manager/ facilitator who thrives in multi-stakeholder environments. You should be strategic, solutions-oriented, collaborative and driven by a commitment to conservation.
- Proven leadership, facilitation and project management experience in multi-group/ stakeholder and team settings.
- Familiarity with local government systems, land-use planning, and environmental policy tools.
- Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal.
- Able to work independently, prioritize effectively, track outcomes and manage time across multiple projects.
- Passion for local ecology and environmental advocacy.
Additional Assets
- Experience and/ or post-secondary training in environmental or conservation-related work
- Familiarity with BC environmental regulations (e.g. Water Sustainability Act, Riparian Areas Protection Regulation).
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, ENGOs, or local government.
- Comfortable using tools like Google Drive, Dropbox, email marketing platforms, and cloud-based collaboration systems.
Working Conditions
This is a contractor position with flexibility to set your own schedule. Most work is remote, with occasional in-person meetings in the Comox Valley. Shared office space is available at the Conservation Centre (Courtenay). Some evening or weekend availability may be required for events or meetings.
Reporting & Evaluation
The Program Manager reports to the CVLT Executive Director and CVCP Steering Committee Co-chairs. You’ll work from a collaboratively developed work plan and submit brief monthly progress updates. Contract reviews occur annually, with an additional six-month check-in for new contractors. There will be an opportunity to grow the program and increase hours based on performance and funding.
