Awards Ceremony at Komoks First Nation Band Hall on May 28
The purpose of this award is to recognize children and youth who care about the natural areas in the Comox Valley and are taking action to conserve the health of these places and our communities. These young people may clean up litter, initiate recycling programs, build community gardens, or hold fundraisers for environmental non-profit organizations and we are proud to support them on their path to becoming environmental stewards of tomorrow.
Presented by the Comox Valley Land Trust and sponsored by BC Hydro, this award is open to all youth between the ages of 5 and 21. There are two prize categories – individual and group – and nominations can come from anyone including teachers, family members, friends, peers or group leaders. The winners will receive a cash prize of $250 for the individual award and $500 for the group award. The individual winner will also be honoured with a tree planted in their name at a local park. All nominees are invited to participate in the awards ceremony which takes place at the Komoks First Nation Hall and Big House where everyone will get seedlings to take home and plant as well as a chance to dance with the Kumugwe Dancers. Snacks will be served, stories will be shared and the winners will be presented with their awards.
